Sarah
Sarah is an intimate story of love and loss within the fostering process.
When she left there was just,
This space.
This absence.
This emptiness.
The last photograph taken of her I find disturbing to look at. Something about the look in her eyes makes you feel like she knew what was coming. Sat on the sofa in our school uniforms she is looking at the camera, her eyes filled with tears. That day, Mum had to leave her in a room and walk away. She didn’t understand that we had no choice.
She arrived at eight days old and left just after her 1st birthday. Twenty-three years on, I still have a box of her belongings, unable to leave her behind.
